Artena è un paese della provincia sud di Roma la cui storia ha da sempre condizionato lo stile di vita dei paesani. Una storia che ha origine nel 1500 con una lunga serie di crimini commessi per mano di briganti di passaggio o abitanti del posto intenti a saccheggiare, uccidere, rubare guidati o da un bisogno di sopravvivenza o da ideali politici. Artena a fine ‘800 registrava numeri eclatanti di crimini mettendosi al primo posto come il paese più pericoloso di Italia. Per anni una famosa teoria del sociologo Cesare Lombroso spiegava come le anomalie fisiche potessero influenzare la psiche umana e quindi, generare anche delinquenti e protrarsi con la genetica. Questo pensiero, anche se affievolitosi col tempo e quasi scomparso, è rimasto radicato nelle idee di molte persone.

Il lavoro fotografico vuole raccontare la storia di un paese fatta di eventi e persone che lo hanno contraddistinto con un passato ancora presente.

Artena is a town in the southern province of Rome whose history has always influenced the lifestyle of the villagers. A story that originates in the 1500s with a long series of crimes committed at the hands of passing brigands or locals intent on plundering, killing, stealing led by either a need for survival or political ideals. At the end of the nineteenth century Artena recorded striking numbers of crimes, ranking first as the most dangerous country in Italy. For years a famous theory by the sociologist Cesare Lombroso explained how physical anomalies could influence the human psyche and therefore also generate criminals and continue with genetics. This thought, although faded over time and almost disappeared, has remained rooted in the ideas of many people.

The photographic work wants to tell the story of a country made of events and people who have marked it with a past still present.
